Key sites include the Changbai Waterfall, Julong Hot Springs, and the Valley Floor Forest. Visitors can take a hanging car up to the main peak for a thrilling ride and a bird's-eye view of Tianchi's scenery.
Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain: Heaven Lake (Tianchi), located on the main volcanic cone of Changbai Mountain, is the source of the Songhua River and a must-see destination. It offers enchanting scenery in every season, where sixteen peaks surround its deep blue waters, creating a uniquely serene and spectacular landscape.
Changbai Waterfall: Changbai Waterfall is formed where Tianchi Lake overflows through a gap at its northern end. The water cascades down steep slopes at a slanted angle, giving the impression of an “inclined stairway to heaven.” At its mouth, a large rock called “Niulang's Ferry” splits the torrent into two jade‑like streams that plunge into the valley, sending up a misty spray.
Afternoon:
Ju Long Quan: Julongquan is a large, widely distributed hot spring area below the Changbai Waterfall, known for its high water temperature. Located along the Erdaobai River, its springs are concentrated on the river's right bank. The name "Julongquan" (Gathering Dragon Spring) comes from the countless hot currents gushing from the ground, resembling a group of dragons spraying water. Due to its high temperature, the spring water is commonly used to boil eggs, which acquire a distinct mineral flavor and are considered a local specialty.
The Green Deep Pond: Luyuan Pool, located on the northern slope of Changbai Mountain, is a natural spring-fed pool renowned for its exceptionally clear, emerald water—earning it the nickname "Little Jiuzhaigou of the Northeast." Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the pool's edge or descend closer to the waterfall for a more immersive experience.
The Small Heavenly Lake: Little Tianchi (also known as Silver Ring Lake) is a small, serene, and round lake on the north slope of Changbai Mountain. Its calm waters clearly reflect the sky and surrounding trees, offering scenery distinct from the grandeur of the main Tianchi. Unlike Tianchi, which has only inlets, Little Tianchi has only an outlet.
Underground Forest: Valley Sea (Underground Forest) is located 5 km east of the Changbai Mountain Ice Field. This crater forest features steep valley walls 50–60 meters high, with trees growing in three distinct layers. Stretching 2.5–3 km north to south, the valley is covered mainly with coniferous forest and is a key landscape along Changbai Mountain’s north route.
Changbai Mountain Water Rafting: Start your day watching the sunrise from Wild Duck Lake, where the sky transforms through shades of yellow, orange, and purple above a sea of misty pine forests. Experience winter rafting on Changbai Mountain’s unfrozen rivers, where crystal flakes gather on your hair and eyelashes amid dreamy rising mist.
